Ubuntu Crashes Windows 7 when mounting a share

For weeks I have been racking my brains why my previously stable Windows 7 machine has begun blue screening every time I try to mount a share to it from my Ubuntu box.

I store the bulk of my multimedia in a shared folder on my Windows 7 box, so I need to mount it on the Ubuntu box to access the media. Now I have been using this method successfully for the past year, but recently have begun getting the above problem.

My Ubuntu box forms the basis of my home theatre system and sometimes I can go for a couple of weeks without using it, so it was hard to identify a cause of the problem. To complicate matters I frequently apply updates to both machines.

If this sounds similar to your problem then the solution may be simple – stop using Zone Alarm on your W7 machine.

It seems that the most recent version of Zone Alarm is the cause of the BSOD.

I have deinstalled it and all is now sweetness and light!
